Phishing Email Cases Attacking Indonesia is Increasingly Rampant


The National Cyber ​​Security Operations Center (Pusopskamsinas) noted that the number of hacking cases in Indonesia during 2020 was quite large. Because, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of internet users is increasing.

From the Pusopskamsinas report quoted on Saturday (6/3/2021), it was explained that quite a lot of hacking cases were carried out via phishing emails.

"In 2020, Pusopskamsinas detected 2549 cases of phishing emails," the report said.

The highest increase in phishing emails occurred in the second quarter of last year, namely March-May 2020. The number of these cases occurred mostly during working hours.

"As many as 55.53% of phishing emails were sent during working hours (09.00 - 17.00) and 44.37% were sent outside of working hours," he said.

The phishing email is one of the techniques from Social Engineering that is widely used by hackers to trick victims. The hacker sends an email with an attractive title for the victim to open, usually financial or advertising related (gifts, vouchers, discounts, etc.).

Emails usually contain an attachment file or a link that directs the download of a malicious program. This program can automatically work on the victim's computer and steal credentials, passwords, accounts, credit card information, and more.

Phishing is becoming a popular choice among hackers because it is cheap, and its ease and effectiveness are quite high. Although many organizations have implemented security systems to block phishing attacks, attackers are also increasingly having more sophisticated phishing tools.
